How To Create Colored Flames
The following information will give you some background on coloring flames.

Colored flames are produced when a metal compund or salt is dissolved into a polar liquid (your fuel) and then ignited. I won't go into much of the technical detail here but suffice it to say, fuels such as kerosene, white gas, charcoal lighter fluid or paraffin are NOT polar. A good fuel to use to dissolve and ionize your salts is denatured alcohol or ethanol.

Basically, make a saturated solution with your salt and fuel, any excess that will not dissolve can be dissolved with additional fuel.

Use your solution as you would regular fuel BUT spin or shake off excess carefully as to not get it all over yourself and NEVER use these mixtures indoors as some salts can when burned can produce irritating fumes.

To put it more simply, always assume any fuel mixture can have toxic fumes and you will keep yourself a lot safer.

Here is a list of some of the chemical salts you can use to make colored flames....this information has been compile from researching several websites. So far, I have just tried the green flames so please use this information at your own risk.

RED - Strontium Chloride - SrCl2.6H2O

YELLOW - Sodium Chloride - NaCl - table salt

GREEN - Boric Acid - aka roach kill powder

BLUE - Copper Sulfate - CuSO4.5H2O

VIOLET - 3 parts Potassium Sulfate - K2SO4
plus
1 part Potassium Nitrate - KNO3

WHITE - Magnesium Sulfate - Epsom Salts

You can find most of these chemicals at any laboratory chemical supplier online.
