Fuels and Their Properties
Every performer should be familiar with the fuels he or she uses.

I have listed the most commonly used fuels below, in decending order of flash point.
The information below was obtained st the following site....

http://msds.pdc.cornell.edu/msdssrch.asp

Please take time to research your fuels there.

Lamp Oil/Parrafin
flash point 419F/215C
vapor density n/a
Not much was said about extreme hazards of this fuel.

Kingsford Odorless Charcoal Lighter Fluid
flash point >140F/ >60C
vapor density 6.2 (air=1)
do not store near flames, heat or sparks. No smoking while
using this product. Do not store near strong oxidants.

Kerosene - K-1
flash point 125F/52C
vapor density 4.5 (air=1)
"This material releases flammable vapors at normal atmospheric
temperatures and pressures; Vapors, when mixed in certain proportion
with air can burn or explode" Avoid high heat, sparks static
electricity and open flame.

Isopropyl Alcohol
flash point 71F/21.7C
vapor density 2.1 (air=1)
"Water is innneffective aginst alcohol fires.
Keep away from heat and flame."

Denatured alcohol
flash point 55.4-57.2F/13-14C
vapor density 1-1.6 (air=1)
"Vapor is heavier than air and may travel considerable distance
to a source of ignition and flash back. Containers may rupture
due to vapor pressure buildup"

Zippo Fluid (same thing as Ronsonol
flash point 39F/3.9C
vapor density 4.0 (air=1)
Same precautions as lighter fluid, same dangers
of container rupture when exposed to heat.
WARNING...This fuel contains trace amounts of Benzene

White Gas - Coleman Lantern/camping fuel
flash point >0F
vapor density 3.0 (air=1)
can form a flammable mixture with air and flash at room teperature.
Vapor is heavier than air and may travel considerable distance
to a source of ignition and flash back.
100% volatile.
